A quality focused cooling process
More than 80% of ECM customers in Europe and North America, (like Delphi) have deployed gas quenching. ECM constantly dedicates intensive R&D efforts to optimize this technology. Gas quenching is a cleaner process, easy to integrate. Gas quenching parameters can be precisely adjusted to deliver substantial quality improvements.
Integrated and environmentally friendly
On ICBP®, gas quenching is run in a specific cell, to which parts loads are quickly transferred from their heating cell after carburizing. Components are then cooled by a gas injected at high pressure, up to 20 bar, and mixed by two fans. When parts come out, there is no longer need to wash them, nor to recycle or treat effluents as with oil quenching. Gas quenching is a cleaner and environmentalally friendly process.
Uniform, predictable, repeatable
Gas quenching leads to important quality gains that are easily translated into savings, like decreased percentage of scrapped parts or reduction of post machining operations. With gas quenching, parts are closer to their final dimensions, with a high level of repeatability. Companies like Delphi, that have a command of both oil and gas quench today, increase the proportion of gas-quenched parts for diesel pumps while reserving oil quench for massive components.
